It is a must that we go to war with these awful people, and show them that they have treated us wrong because:

The British have treated us Americans very poorly since we have become colonized. They have stopped American sailors while sailing in international waters and seizing the boat’s possessions and the people that are on board. These people have been sitting outside many of our harbors and torturing many of the ships that are leaving, some cases are even ending in Americans shedding blood.

The Americans are still fuming about the Chesapeake Affair. It was not right for the British to destroy the coast of our great nation for such a minor reason. Us putting the Embargo Act on them is much like them putting the taxes on the various goods that we were importing or using.

We must end the Embargo Act and trade with these countries or go to war against them, if we just sit and do not trade with them we will eventually run out of goods. We do not have an overabundance of goods to last for a long period of time. While the British will just sit there laughing at us in their ships ten feet off of our coast.

I conclude that we may seem unprepared for a war with Britain, but we have managed to succeed before. We must show that we will not be intimidated by their show of force and power through impressment, Indian incitements, and their control of commerce. This is an opportunity to gain respect and grow as a country. Diplomacy can do only so much, whereas a war will show the world our intentions for democracy and our nation, that can be pushed further towards greatness.

Long live liberty! Let the United States of America stand as one against oppression!

In conclusion, I believe that it is without a doubt in the best interest of our country to go to war against Britain. The main reason being that the British have not treated us as they should since the day of our colonization. The British have also destroyed the coasts of our nation for little to no reason. Even though we have a small army that is not a good enough excuse to just take the abuse that they have put upon us.

Prudent indeed is our need to go to war with Britain. Any true supporter of our nation's further growth would see that this is exactly what we need to stand up to the tyranny of Britain, years after we have already thrown off their despotic ways. We may be a young country, but this is why we need to prove ourselves and stand up to the brutish Britain. We need to earn the respect of the rest of the world. 1) Strong action is needed to end the barbaric impressment of our fellow countrymen. Britain must learn that we cannot be intimidated by, especially after the Chesapeake tragedy. 2) For our country to advance forward, we can no longer sit idly by while the British continue their harassment of our commerce. The Embargo Act may not have been the solution to the Orders of Council, but something needs to be done. 3) The British will not stop in their provocation of us. Their incitement of Indian attacks along our border are unacceptable. If we cannot defend our borders, how are we ever to become a respected world power? Rise up my fellow Americans! Our honor and liberty is at stake! We must show the world that democracy is not just a possibility, but a necessity, and the only way to accomplish this is through war!

It is undoubtedly so that British impressment of American merchants is a dastardly crime, one that should by all means be halted with great speed. Military action would not be judicious in this circumstance. Britain's navy and overall possession of power is far greater than any of our potential means of retaliation. Our efforts would be swiftly extinguished, without a hint of mercy from the British. Forceful action rarely has a positive effect. History is written with the blood of past generations, and there is no need for those pages to be stained with American ichor. Diplomacy and peaceful intervention is the only solution that will protect our merchants, uphold our honor, and end the British barbarism.

Jingoist,

Your argument concerning British provocation of Indians is rightly due. However, there are ways to trounce Indian incitement without emptying the armories. First off, American treatment of the indigenous is egregious at best. The Indians are civilized enough to be capable of negotiation. We have wronged them one too many times and have looted their sacred lands from their lifeless clutches in the aftermath of battle. It is a diplomatic issue we are currently experiencing. If we as Americans had better respected and honored the Indians since the founding days of the colonies they would be less inclined to assail upon our people. Being that we have erroneously blighted the natives, we must seek diplomacy with London. After all, our livelihood is dependent, to some degree, on the British markets, and another drawn out war would only further cement their distaste for America and ruin future commerce with Britain.

Jingoist,

While I agree that Britain should not think we are intimidated of them, we do not need to send men into battle. First of all because we do not have enough men to fight Britain. It is also difficult for America to go through another war with little funds and no support from other countries like France. Secondly we are at an unstable point in our history from the Embargo Act to creating a new democracy it will be difficult to fight Britain.

The Indian attacks were improper, but we will become a respected world power. Britain will use that against us during the whole war, and they will get Indians to battle against us and probably will defeat us. Also if we talk to Britain and make a deal we should be able to stop them from harassing us. It has been quite a few years since the Revolutionary War, but they soon will get over themselves and allow us to be a free country. We do not need another war.

True supporters of our nation's further growth need not inhibit it by adding to our national debt with needless war. We have had our fight with Britain. We have bested them fairly and need not return to battle to prove our collective manhood. None of your points address a very central point: What of our military unpreparedness? Would you have us send our sons, fathers and brothers to fight and lay down their lives for our protection? That is barbaric in its naivety. We need not prove ourselves through war. We must earn respect for our country through legitimate means, not through needless bloodshed.

An additional fault I must find with your argument is your assertion that Britain will never stop provoking us. This is surely untrue. A country does not remain in its infancy forever. We are not currently strong enough to face Britain, but the day may come in which we are. It is undeniable that the British have treated us reprehensibly in our days as a country. But if we bide our time, and improve our country, the day may come in which we can stand toe to toe with the British, and not flinch in the slightest. I speak not of cowardice, but of prudence.

I 1000% (that is one thousand) agree that we should not just accept the tyranny that the Red coats have put on to us, especially since we have just put so much effort in to a revolution against the same country.

Nothing could be less prudent than going to war with Britain. Although there are innumerable reasons why this is so, I shall endeavor to list a few of them. 1) We are unprepared militarily for this war. We are a young country. Brilliant, proud, but young. In these early days in which our country takes tottering steps toward unity and strength, we must not undermine our growth with new war. Our army is poorly trained, barely disciplined and scattered. 2) Our economy is still stunted as a result of the Embargo Act. We need recovery time, not a new debacle to recover from... and lastly, 3) We have no chance of securing a victory versus Britain. Their navy is stronger, their men have received superior training, and they have far more soldier to pour into this endeavor. Additionally, Britain has funds that we lack. With Britain’s superior troops and armaments, declaring war could not be more ill-advised. Rather than start a war that we have no hope of winning, let us seek to build up our own country.

Even though we are a very young country we must defend our selves and not take all of the things that Britain has done to us. Do you think that being the underdog stopped the colonists from revolting against Britain in the first place, so why would it stop them from going to war again.

Redcoats,

How you talk of building up our nation, when we are still under a foot of Britain. Britain's advantages has you thinking that we would be unable to defeat them. Remember the Revolutionary War my friend! We were far outnumbered in both experience and funding, yet we managed to overcome their tyranny. If we put all of our thoughts and strength behind this war, we will succeed again.

War with Britain would not undermine our growth as you put, but increase it! Our industry would flourish to provide us with needed supplies, and instead of looking overseas for commerce we would reach for our own manufacturers. This could be just what our infant nation needs to reach maturity, the chance to grow.

I concur adamantly with Redcoats first argument–we are an infant nation still finding our way into this world and teetering on the threshold of our own internal demise. A war with Britain is neither unwarranted nor wise. We should not let our success thus far cloud our rationale and better judgement. We should rather withhold the gun powder from a quarrel that would surely lead to the forfeiture of our nascent and promising democracy and attempt to resolve current internal problems.

The British have long been our mortal foes in battle. Their crimes against the United States come without justification. Their despicable actions are, at this time, being diplomatically put to an end. It would behoove the United States to refrain from hastily rushing into a war with Britain. Such a war would be a great folly and a detriment to the foundation that has been built thus far. As a country, we are in no position to launch any attack, especially one aimed upon the most powerful nation of our time. In order to protect the prosperity, independence, and resilience of this country, abstinence from a bloodied war is imperative. Reasons for avoiding war include: 1.) The United States has come far from since the days of democratic infancy. Thousands of lives have been lost for this Republic, and it’s the responsibility of our government to ensure that their efforts were not in vain. A war with the mighty tyrant (Britain) would jeopardize the world’s only democracy and potentially extinguish the power of the United States. It’s foolish to subject ourselves to war when, in all likelihood, the British will decimate our armies and reconquer North America from our cold lifeless hands. 2.) Our military strength at this time isn’t fortified enough to engage in a war, let alone a war that will also be played out on the high seas. Military funding is meager at best, and our militias are inadequately equipped to sustain the bludgeons of the British military. Our military infancy will render us vulnerable and ultimately incapable of being victorious. 3.) There are more pressing issues at home, such as the economy and our emerging democracy. The Embargo act has diminished, to some degree, our accumulation of supplies that would be necessary for a potential, prolonged war. Britain has more financial means and capital to back up their war efforts, whereas our economy is susceptible to even the slightest internal affairs, and a war would be devastating to the U.S economy. It would be a victory in and of itself to preserve our economy and democracy from the perils of war.

I agree with your second statement. We have no chance in winning this war, our country is so small that it will be an embarrassment to fight them again. We would not have won during the Revolutionary War if we did not have the support of France. During this war France may not help us because we did not help them in their Revolutionary War. We will look back at this and wonder why we did this to our military men and to our country.

FederalMan,

You are correct in the statement that this nation has come far in its democratic ways. Those who believe a war could jeopardize these ideals will not take the risk that instead, democracy could be taken farther. Standing up Britain would show other countries that they need not follow the ways they always have. We would inspire others to instigate democracies of their own and forever keep alive the United States.

A war with Britain would be dreadful. While there are some people who think it is a good thing I will give you a few reasons to persuade you to stop thinking this war is good. 1) We are not prepared, our military is inadequate, we have little funds and only a few soldiers. It also does not help that we are starting a new country and a have democracy in the making. Secondly 2) some military men think by defeating Britain we will be able to capture Canada. Why do we need Canada? It serves no purpose to us, except for land, although, we are expanding our country now so we have no need for Canada. Lastly 3) Britain has a lot more power over us. Mainly because they are developed and have a strong army to defeat us. Some may think we have an advantage because we know the land, but British people have been over here since the Revolutionary War and they know the land just as well as us.

The power of one country over the other is not a good reason to defend yourself, otherwise the Taliban or these other groups would not be attacking America today because of our power.

Bostonian,

The people of this land will certainly know our country better than the British, we were its founders. The very idea of Britain chafing at our borders is only one of our needs to fight back. I would argue that Canada would be an asset to furthering our country and democracy. With European powers no longer closing us in, we would be free to grow and expand. With this growth we would spread the idea of democracy, and may even reach other parts of the world where democracy is needed most.

I must strongly agree. Our proud young nation would fall heavily beneath British fire. We cannot go to war with an infant militia. Where once we fought for freedom, liberty, justice and all things good, we now fight over petty squabbles. Our people are apathetic towards this war, and we are a country of the people. Let us not voicelessly follow the lead of a clueless leader. Let us raise our voices against this needless war.

I shall conclude that the U.S ought not to wage war against Britain, albeit there are many reasons to bravely foist ourselves upon them. Our fine nation will persist through British terrorism and be resilient in spirit. Let the British continue their reputation-blackening crimes, and let diplomacy assuage conflict peacefully. Our current forces are insufficient and could not endure a prolonged war. Spread the word like wildfire through the colonies that America will persevere without unnecessary shedding of American blood. Rally in support of diplomacy my brothers! Democracy now, democracy forever!

Side: Against

I conclude my arguments with these final points 1) Nothing can be gained from a lopsided war with Britain. We are unprepared and the people do not wish to bloody their hands. 2) We are financially unstable, and must take this time to repair and grow our country. 3) We can only really earn respect through peace. Warriors are respected as long as they live, but peacemakers command respect eternally. Let us reach out to Britain as friends, cousins. We need not prove military excellence at this juncture- in fact, we lack military to prove. Let us improve ourselves, and offer others our example, rather than our gunpowder and lead.

I conclude my argument in stating that the war is unreasonable to our country. Britian has a lot more power and we will be the laughing stock of the world. We also have no funding for the war. The war is bad and we need to stay away from it. Help me get everyone involved in stopping this war!
